Butler Family Lawyer

The Butler family lawyers here at Bunde & Roberts, P.C. have been practicing family law for years in Western Pennsylvania. We assist clients in all matters of family law, including prenuptial agreements, partitions, adoption, and much more, including all of the following topics.

Family Law Areas of Practice

  • Adoption—Many individuals and couples enter the adoption process excited to bring a new person into their lives only to discover how difficult the adoption process really is. The adoption process is a complicated process that involves jumping through countless hoops. An attorney can help streamline the process, ensure that you submit all required forms and legal documents, and help you through matching, placement, and all other aspects of adoption.
  • Family Appeals—Appeals are a normal part of the legal process. From divorce to custody, many family law cases go to an appeals court, which re-examines the case, and may reverse the original judgement. Whether you need to defend the original court decision, or wish to appeal yourself, you need an experienced family law attorney on your side.
  • Name Change—While more women are keeping their maiden names these days, according to the New York Times, there are many reasons why someone may wish to have a legal name change. Gender transition, marriage, divorce, and a simple dislike of their current name are just a few. However, in order to change your name in Pennsylvania, you must have a valid reason. Moreover, the legal and paperwork requirements for a name change can be daunting, which is why working with an attorney is so beneficial.
  • Partitions—In some cases, a couple cannot rely on Pennsylvania’s equitable division of assets, such as if they are unmarried and own real estate jointly. If the couple cannot resolve the division of assets by themselves, the court must step in and appoint a partition master.
  • Paternity—In order to hold the father of a child responsible for child support payments, or for a father to gain custody/visitation rights, paternity may need to be established. This can be accomplished with a blood or DNA paternity test, ordered by the court. There are nearly 300,000 paternity tests performed annually in the U.S., according to research.
  • Prenuptial & Postnuptial Agreement—A pre or postnuptial agreement is a great way to avoid disputes and legal complications down the road. They are particularly useful if the marriage is a second marriage, there are children outside the marriage, one spouse is much older than the other, one spouse has a debt or gambling problem, or if the incomes or assets of the spouses are vastly different.
  • Domestic Abuse—Domestic abuse is one of the least talked about, yet most common, acts of criminal violence in the U.S. An attorney can help the victim start a new life by having the abuser removed from the home or create a restraining order against the abuser.
